I'm Not a Wimp.

Just a reminder:
For those of you who don't know or realize it, I have a Pinterest page with well over 11,100 images. All "eye candy" you would love to see. I post daily or at least very often there. Go visit it. With over 7,700 followers in just about 6 months, you know there are some gorgeous images there. I doubt you'll be disappointed. Enjoy them!

Several women I know are just starting to go through menopause. I'm about 20 - 35 years older than some of the women I hang out and go to lunch with a few times a month. I hear such horrid stories of hot flashes and mood swings. I can't relate to that as mine was very easy—no hot flashes, no mood swings (Tell that to hubby and he'll laugh, but it's true. I've always been a nag!), nothing close to what I've heard or been told by other women. I was lucky. I never took a hormone pill except for one day and no HRT either. I took the one pill after prescribed by my doctor and didn't like the feeling it gave me so didn't go beyond the first pill.

Some are even considering hysterectomies and I have to tell you mine was the easiest operation ever. I went in on a Monday, had it on a Tuesday, asked if I could go home on Thursday and after astonished looks and a chat with my doctor, he said I could if I felt that great. He said I was the only patient he ever had that wanted to leave so fast after surgery. I told him I had worlds to conquer and better things to do than lay around all day in a bed. The following Monday I was back in Jazzercise class but told the instructor that I'd had surgery the past week in case things got a bit weird. I never had a problem at all and continued Jazzercizing the whole week. That's how fast I recuperate. Loved Jazzercise.

An absolutely gorgeous bedroom and look how the homeowner did the side tables.

Love this checkered chair.

White with lavender is so soothing.

Lucky the woman who has that little shelf to use for decorating with flowers from her garden. Sigh.

I have absolutely no reason why but this home reminds me of Africa. South Africa to be precise. I don't know why.

A lovely vignette in a store. Who would have thought that discarded vintage bed springs would become so popular in shabby chic decorating. Watch out for the dumpster divers! :-)

I absolutely love old radiators like these in these in this room. They really do give the most even heat in a room and I think are rather pretty in a room. I'd have them if I could. Great even heat throughout a room without gusts of warmth on your face.

A very colorful and beautiful home entry.

A favorite craft of mine is making these roses. Very relaxing, easy, fast and wonderful for decorating jackets, blouses and coats.

What a terrific room for 4 kids! I think it'd be fun to share a room with siblings under these circumstances. Everyone has a privacy curtain and a light.

A nice example of shabby chic decorating.

This looks like it could be a pin storage container. Whatever it is, it's gorgeous.

I just cannot get enough of embroidered roses today. I have to make some shoes like this for a new mother in our ward. She'll be surprised, I'm sure.

What a way to store our jellies and jams you've made. Cute!!!

While this is somewhat Victorian and I'm not fond of Victorian as it is strictly applied, but this room is lovely.

Tidbit:

The Swedish pop group Abba once turned down an offer of $1,000,000,000 (billion!) to reunite. Now that takes courage and character in my book.

The English Language

Okay, grammar check again. You know by now how OCD I am about the use of our language today by younger people—and some older people also. Just a tip for success to log into your brain if you can remember this. Lots of blogs or even news stories written by professionals today are saying this: "him/her and me"  like to hang out together. That's atrocious language and shows your ignorance. It's "he/she and I" like to hang out together, not him and me. And always put the pronouns he or she before I. Teach this to others as the word needs to get around. And don't let them tell you that's the way everybody talks! Ask them if they want to remain ignorant all their lives and have themselves defined by how incorrectly they speak. And why don't our teachers correct them in class? A small fraction of time being embarrassed with save them a lifetime of embarrassment and possibly success in their future endeavors.

Why oh why do men, and now some women, turn their ball caps around and wear them backwards? The visor was invented to keep the sun out of your eyes and to tip your hat to ladies. Have you ever seen a league ball player wear it backwards? No, they know what a cap is for. My hubby always takes it off indoors at restaurants and even when going up to the church to do some catching up on the computer, not especially in stores.

Things I've seen around the blogs lately:

Boo Hoo Whore embroidery? What the heck is that embroidered on a pillow?

Dream all you want, there are no unicorns or fairies. I'm a bit sick of seeing posts of people idolizing species that do NOT exist, especially when the fairies are pretty much naked. ;-)

Bloggers who talk about intimate, private things on their blogs. Keep it to yourself! It's disgusting and lurid to those of us who wince when we first see it. Private means not discussing it with others. Get it?

A beautiful small cottage with the lush grounds we associate with cottages.

Purple is one of my favorite colors. It's a great accent for pink and I do have some in my living room.

Is that a fan in the garden? I've never thought of bringing a fan outside but it's a great idea.

An amusing little vignette.

Jewels on pillows? Oh, yes! Beautiful.

I adore this kitchen even though I'd want something a little newer.

My favorite color of blue for clothes.

Now we're talkin' when I saw this kitchen. Beautiful!

Pink oreos? Why not? Loving pink like I do, I'd buy them if they still tasted like chocolate. ;-)

Lovin' this red kitchen. Pink and red and yellow would be my dream kitchen.

Yeah, yeah, here's hoping our clematis will look like this someday.

Beautiful for seashore or beach decor.

Now we're talking beauty!! Love this pink in the kitchen.

Perfect weathered old bench in a park.

Never enough roses in a house in my opinion, even if on a cake. ;-)

Tidbit:

When Orson Welles won the Best Screenplay Oscar for his classic Citizen Kane in 1941, it wasn't a popular choice. The audience booed.

Potential Oscar winners were told to keep acceptance speeches to 45 seconds after Greer Garson's 1942 speech clocked in at five minutes and 30 seconds.

In 1979 Oscar-wining actress Shirley MacLaine used the podium to cheer up her sibling Warren Beatty, who lost out for Heaven Can Wait. "I want to use this opportunity to say how proud I am of my little brother. Just imagine what you could accomplish if you tried celibacy?" He was not amused.

Opposites Certainly Do Attract

Just a reminder:
For those of you who don't know or realize it, I have a Pinterest page with well over 11,000 images. All "eye candy" you would love to see. I post daily or at least very often there. Go visit it. I really don't like tooting my own horn but I will here: In just 6 short months, there are 7,500 followers there, so you know the images are beautiful. Your choice. But if I were you, I wouldn't miss them. ;-)
*
Stymies me:
Why don't I have any tattoos? For the same reason you don't put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari. I see the most beautiful young women, and young men for that matter, who have gorgeous skin—youthful, glowing, smooth, vibrant—and just want to cry. I couldn't put something on my skin that diminishes the skin I was born with.
 *
Men who leave 10 minutes early to go 1/2 block but wait until 8 minutes to the hour to go 1 and 1/2 miles to pick up a companion to go back the 1 and 1/2 miles to visit another person. Sigh. You know this happened in this household, right?
*
The train wreck that recently happened in Spain was caused by the engineer being on his cell phone. Now that hundreds of people are dead because of that, maybe he'll be a bit more careful. Hmmmmm? Sickens me, because I've very nearly been hit by women talking on their cells while driving.
*

My hubby and I are both fairly smart, but we're smart in different things. He can talk to someone for hours about different trains, but he can't concentrate on another language enough to learn it. I, on the other hand, know not a thing about trains but I can whip him savagely in learning languages. I'm more of the arts and he's more of the sciences. But as I've said before, we are different in so many ways. Once a man told us while we were together that we were nothing alike. We looked at each other and smiled because we've been married over 52 years. I almost said to the man, "It must be the sex." If I had, I have no doubt he would have been flustered. He's a man that wouldn't say much and would probably blush. But we've made it this far and I expect we'll go out of this world together and spend the rest of eternity together. Opposites can very well do great together with a commitment to love each other to the end of time and beyond and we do.

A beautiful window. Too bad it has to have iron bars on it. Looks to be in another country though. Actually, I think the bars add interest to the window.

Tulips and narcissus.

Just a simple, beautiful basket of fading roses.

Oh, yum! I love chocolate and coconut together. I'm such a sucker for sweets.

A very cute and open kitchen. Love that look.

Gorgeous camellia.

A sweet vignette in a house. Living here would be relaxing I think.

More gorgeous pillows to drool over. Love these.

A homeowner who loves to sew cute pincushions to look like cookies.

Another relaxing area in a backyard.

I wish I had a space for a couple of these eggs. I'd make them in a minute. They are so cute. Maybe I'll make a few to put in a bowl somewhere in this house.

I saw this and thought it was delightful. How cute it is to place pretty flowerpots on a short ladder like that!

A charming blue and red bedroom.

I'm lovin' this colorful small kitchen and dining room in my favorite colors, pink and red.

And another crafter put her talents to good use. Adorable.

Some Statements on Life

For those of you who don't know or realize it, I have a Pinterest page with well over 10,600 images. All "eye candy" you would love to see. I post daily or at least very often there. Go visit it. I really don't like tooting my own horn but I will here: In just 6 short months, there are 7,000 followers there, so you know the images are beautiful. Your choice. But if I were you, I wouldn't miss them. ;-)

Plus I am finding Pinterest much more to my liking at this point than blogging. I love posting those images for all to see. While I love blogging and have mentioned on here this sentiment, there have been times when I've thought of giving it up. But several emails from other bloggers have said how they love the stories as well as the images I post. So for the foreseeable future, I'll blog also. It's fulfilling to be able to share stories and thoughts. There may come a time when it isn't so fulfilling though. I hope that never happens but we'll see.

Perusing the blogs/internet lately for gorgeous photos I've noticed how small most of the apartment living rooms are in New York. Lots of times they'll be long and narrow. Must be hard to decorate a room like that but some were absolutely lovely.

And I've heard many, many women in my life complain about having kids and not being able to have "nice" things because of that. Poppycock! That's ridiculous! Train your children to live with antiques—if that's your problem— or pretty things and they'll cherish them as much as you. Tell them they can only put their feet on furniture if they don't have shoes on. It's called Manners, people, Manners! I cannot tell you the number of times I've visited with people and their kids just plop their shoes upon the sofa or chair. It makes me pause when wanting to sit down on it. It's a matter of teaching them how to live graciously, and yes, this includes boys or men. Teach them manners and they'll be way ahead of the others in life. Trust me on this one.

My hubby is very careful with our stuff. Also our grandkids are when in our home. It's called "respect." You can absolutely have beautiful things if you teach/train your children to live with them. Sure, something might get broken but I'd rather that happen than not to live with them at all.

And that brings me to another topic I'm nutty about: proper speaking and language. I wonder when I hear many, and I mean MANY, people talk, how they're going to get through life with their verbal skills. And a great deal of these people are college graduates. You'll never be a success if your verbal skills are less than professional.

This issue came up recently on one of the "hottest" trials in history in July. A young woman on the witness stand was maligned because she couldn't read cursive or speak properly. While feeling pain for that young woman, it was sad that a 19 year-old cannot read cursive writing. Plus, assuming she wants to get ahead and make something of herself in life, her language was atrocious. Foul language was her daily vocabulary. To say nothing of its incorrectness. Unless she cleans up that, I doubt she'll have much of a chance in life. We don't use vulgar language at all. Neither do our friends or acquaintances. Truly sad where some of our inner-city kids are headed in the lives. Where are their mothers and their fathers? I'd like to see everyone succeed. They are also children of our Heavenly Father and loved just as much as everyone else. It truly saddens me.

A place to eat and dream.

A beautiful bedroom in which to pamper yourself.

Have I told you that my favorite thing to do would be to eat donuts every single day for breakfast? This is true!

More gorgeous bouquets of roses.

A lovely vintage chair used more for eye candy than anything else.

Aren't these adorable? I'd definitely wear a air of shoes like these.

And I'd also carry a bag like this one.

And I'd wear shoes like these definitely!

Cute magnets for your refrigerator door. I ONLY put pretty ones on my refrigerator door—roses or something like that. Definitely not ones with pithy sayings. I'm so tired of those.

Gorgeous pillow and bedding.

Yep, I know about now you're lusting for a place like this, preferably on a lake.

I love chicken wire on cabinets. It lets you see what's in your cabinets.

Some lucky women's studio. Sigh.

A sweet tiny area in a kitchen to sit and relax with a cup of your favorite beverage. For me, that would be Pepsi! :-)

Okay, it's a sweet idea, but you really couldn't talk over that pot of daisies. ;-)
